Day of Celebration . . .

My good friends over at Fictive Fingers invited me over to their house last weekend for Hari Raya eats.

Hari Raya means "day of celebration". During the month of Ramadan leading up to Hari Raya, it is mandatory for Muslims to fast. Fasting is meant to teach patience, sacrifice, and humility. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of Allah, and to offer prayer. During Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance, and help in refraining from everyday evils, trying to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. Hari Raya marks the end of Ramadan.

The food was amazing. And like American Thanksgiving, very filling. We ate and ate and ate! And--somehow--watched a Barney movie in the middle of it all. Purple dinosaurs and curry puffs!

Not surprising, I fell asleep for a short while at the end of the celebration: completely content. Enjoy these delicious images!
